BudgetPulse - Free Your Finances!

|
Recently, Craig, a regular reader of FrugalNYC alerted me to changes to his company's website Budgetpulse.

The website is geared to help those who want to better manage their own finances. Now is the best time for such a site, as the global economy is in the worst financial climate since the great depression.

One thing I like about this site is that it does not require you to enter private information, like Mint does. Those of you who are security conscious will like this feature as well. Yes it does mean a bit more work upfront, since you cannot sync your banking accounts with the site, but I see this as a benefit - securit wise. With all the scams going on in the financial world, its good to know you don't need to worry about it here.

Below is the press release regarding the revamped site.

New and Improved Website Takes the Mystery out of Personal Finance Management and Helps Customers Get out of Debt.

A revamped BudgetPulse.com offers everyone from students to retirees a simple and secure way to build a personal budget and eliminate debt.

Washington, DC / Amid the worst financial climate since the Great Depression, a revamped website is giving average consumers access to the same financial management tools as wealth professionals. BudgetPulse.com is a free website offering customers the ability to track their finances and payment obligations and ultimately eliminate debt while maintaining an industry-leading level of security that effectively eliminates the threat of identity theft, the company says.

We understand this economic climate has made people even more careful about hanging on to whatever money they have left,” says Craig Kessler, marketing director for BudgetPulse.com.Unlike other financial services, we don’t sync our customers’ information with financial institutions like banks and credit card companies. Our customers have complete control over what information gets stored with us and what gets changed.”

For more than two years, BudgetPulse.com has offered an array of personal finance management tools and services to give its customers an alternative to hiring a financial advisor. The service is designed to empower its customers and enable them to quickly and easily take control of their personal finances.

The personal finance management software is so easy to use, the company says it has seen a growing number of students using the website to learn how to build a personal budget and avoid building personal debt before they even enter the “real world.” These same students say they have used the website’s budget tool in their finance classes to help them learn the fundamentals of personal finance management as well as how to eliminate debt.

The website allows customers to set savings goals, build ideal budgets, and track multiple accounts including credit cards, mortgages and other assets and liabilities. Because the service is entirely web-based, customers are able to access and manage their finances anywhere in the world and at any time.

The service’s ease of use is actually how the company got off the ground,” says Kessler. “CEO Raj Jeyaprakash created the application to help with his own budgeting problems. He didn’t want to have to sync his sensitive information with banks and he wanted to be able to upload his financial statements in minutes. It helped him so much he gave it to his family and friends and things just took off from there.”

The website’s manual input feature is also perfect for people with international banking ties whereas other financial management programs aren’t normally compatible with overseas banks.

I think the site looks great and looks very inviting. If you have used budgetpulse, I would love to hear your experience with this service.

10 Free Things To Do In Queens

|

I've gotten some good remarks about my previous post 10 Free Places To Visit In NYC Today, so I decided to write one on Queens! This is just the tip of the ice burg so there will be other venues in the future. I've been to all these below venues and have enjoyed my time at each one, I hope you will enjoy your time at these venues as well.

  1. Flushing Library - Find Books, movies, comics, video games, free wifi and many other services available free to the public.
  2. Flushing Meadows Corona Park - It's not quite Central Park, though you will find many activities at this park - especially during the summer! It's a very large park, that's why I've also included several related venues on this list.
  3. Playground For All Children - This playground is located at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park, near the Queens Zoo! It features some unique musical instruments not seen in any other playgrounds I've been to. It truly is a playground for all children - of all ages!
  4. Queens Botanical Garden - One of the smaller Botanical Gardens in NYC, you can stroll through most of it in about an hour or two. Worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood, it was recently renovated and includes many environmental friendly features.
  5. Astoria Park and Swimming Pool - Astoria Park is one of my favorite water front parks in Queens. The Astoria Pool is a pool that meets Olympic standards! So come by in the summer!
  6. Socrates Sculpture Park - From landfill to public exhibition, this is a must see! Many events are featured at this park, including outdoor movies. It is the only site in the New York Metropolitan area specifically dedicated to providing artists with opportunities to create and exhibit large-scale work in a unique environment that encourages strong interaction between artists, artworks and the public. This means you are welcome to touch the art!
  7. P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center - Located in LIC, and part of MoMA, it was once a public school - thus the name. It's a museum solely devoted to contemporary art! This one isn't exactly free, but like MoMA, it has a "suggested admission" of $5 for adults and $2 for seniors and students. This means you can pay what you want! The suggested price is not much to pay.
  8. Flushing Chinatown - take a stroll through this neighborhood and you may think you are in China! This is said to be larger than the "original" Chinatown in lower Manhattan. You'll find some of the best Chinese food in this neighborhood, and it's cheap! A stroll is free!
  9. Flushing Townhall - While you're in Flushing, visit the old townhall! It is a landmark and include a 340-seat state of the art concert hall/theater, three museum quality galleries, a classroom, offices, a garden that accommodates up to 500 people for outdoor events, and a visitors' center.
  10. Little India - Visit little India in Jackson Heights. You'll find many great Indian restaurants, and its very easy to get there. Take the 7, E, F, G, V or R trains to 74th Street and Roosevelt Ave.
That's it for now. Hope you like this list. Let us know how you enjoy these free things to do in Queens.

Growing Closer In Tighter Budgets

|

I just read an article about how tighter budgets can bring families closer together.

I would have to agree and have definitely seen some of what's described myself. When so many people you know are getting laid off, things change very quickly. People who were once too busy with work are now free. People who used to have a full schedule, trying to squeeze all the extra activities in, now actually have free time.

Since everyone seems to be cutting back, I thought it would be interesting to find out what you have cut back and what happy surprises you've found along the way.

I have enjoyed doing a bit of baking and shopping at the supermarket with the family. What about you?

Discovered Eater.com

|
We recently discovered a website called Eater via Twitter. This site talks about food and eateries. It is definitely worth a look if you plan on checking out a place to eat in NYC.

They keep track of openings and delays of restaurants, and NYC foodies may find this site a great resource. Upon a further look, this site is part of the Curbed Network, which also owned Curbed NY, a NYC neighborhood and real estate blog.

We'll be sure to keep an eye on their twitter account. Let us know if you have found them to be a great resource.
