Quick Tips!

Free Clinic in the Rockaways

|
The Rockaways have been an underserved community in NYC, after superstorm Sandy, many parts have been abandoned and there is still continuing construction to bring some businesses and homes back.  Many doctors offices were washed away with the storm and many continue to lack medical coverage.

In recent years, surfers have flocked to the beach for the wave.  I've personally been to the Rockaways beach area only a handful of times.  The area was quiet to start with, after the storm, it seems to be an abandoned child of NYC.

The good news is, now there is a free medical clinic opened by the Non-profit Doctors of the World.  The clinic opened this week and is located at 2-30 Beach 102nd St.  They will provide primary and preventive care to uninsured adults Thursdays 12pm to 8pm and Saturdays 10am to 2pm.

The also provide the following services:

  • Referrals to specialty care and chronic disease management
  • Basic cancer screenings, mental and womens health services
  • Locals can also get help signing up for services like Medicare and insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

For more info see their web page Rockaways Free Clinic or call (718) 634-4941
