One of the greatest things I love about NYC is the numerous FREE activities you can find all around the city.  Aside from paying for travel, you can find FREE things to do just about any day!  That's one of the reasons why I started the FrugalNYC blog.  Today I wanted to bring a couple of these upcoming FREE activities in NYC to your attention.

If you enjoy a little time in the park you're sure to enjoy lounging in Bryant Park.  I wrote all about the festivities going on in Bryant Park until October the 9th earlier this week.  Today you will find the Ensemble ACJW, the performance arm of Carnegie Hall’s The Academy, at Bryant Park from 6:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.  Seating starts around 5 p.m. so get there early for a good seat!

If you get to Bryant Park early, you can try Petanque anytime from 11:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m.  Learn to play pétanque, the popular European game anchored in precision, patience, and camaraderie from members of La Boule New Yorkaise, NYC’s championship-winning club, in Bryant Park.

If the park is not your thing, you still have time to Kayak on the Hudson, for FREE!  This is available on Saturdays and Sunday from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. at Riverside Park South (72nd Street on Hudson river).  The FREE Kayaking events will continue until October 11, 2009.  You don't even need to make an appointment, just head on over and enjoy exploring the Hudson from a different vantage point!  You get about 20 minutes per session, but you can get additional sessions if the lines are not too long.  Just bring your swimming ability, wear the provided life jacket and enjoy the endless fun for FREE.

Don't forget to catch the Wizard of OZ streamed for FREE all day on Saturday October 3, 2009.  If you have a pre-school or early elementary school age child, come by the FrugalNYC blog to get a FREE copy of the Zula Patrol DVD and a 30 day FREE membership to Zula World.  This giveaway ends today October 2, 2009.

Hi Jen!

The best place to see leaves change in NYC are the Botanical Gardens.

Central Park's Conservatory Garden is a good place to check out the Fall foliage in the city. The northern half of Central Park is full of trees and good to check. Start from Belvedere Castle and go north.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden is one of the best places as well. It's easy to get to via MTA subway/bus.
